What affects the price

Every home is different. These are the things that move a quote up or down, and we explain each one at your survey.

  • The size of the room. Bigger rooms, large windows and south-facing glass need a more powerful unit.
  • The number of rooms. A multi-room system shares one outdoor unit, which usually costs less than separate systems.
  • The pipe route. A back-to-back install, with the indoor unit on an outside wall, is the simplest. Longer runs through the house take more time and materials.
  • Access. Upper floors may need a ladder platform or scaffold for the outdoor unit or pipework.
  • Drainage. Units need a drain for condensation. Where gravity drainage is not possible, a small pump is added.
  • The range you choose. Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric both offer standard and premium ranges, with differences in noise, efficiency and design.
  • Finishing. Concealed pipework and trunking in a chosen colour add to the cost but give a cleaner look.

Running costs

Air conditioning is more efficient than most people expect. A modern split system typically uses a quarter to a third as much electricity as the cooling it delivers, and in heating mode it produces around three to four units of heat for each unit of electricity.

To estimate the cost, multiply the unit’s power use in kilowatts by the hours it runs, then by your electricity price per kWh. We give you the figures for your exact system at the survey.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Choose the right size: an oversized unit costs more to buy and runs less efficiently.
  • Put the indoor unit on an outside wall where possible.
  • Cool several rooms from one outdoor unit with a multi-room system.
  • Book in winter or spring, when installation dates are easier to get.
  • Keep it serviced each year so it runs efficiently and stays under warranty.

How much does air conditioning cost to install?

With Monair Cooling, a single-room wall-mounted system starts from £1,595 fitted and a two-room system starts from £2,995. Your exact price depends on the system, the room sizes and the pipe route, and we confirm it as a fixed price after a free survey.

Why do quotes for air conditioning vary so much?

Quotes depend on the size and range of the units, how far the pipework has to run, access to the outside wall and whether extras such as a condensate pump or trunking are needed. Always check what a quote includes, not just the headline price.

How much does air conditioning cost to run?

A modern system uses much less electricity than the cooling it produces, typically a quarter to a third. To estimate it, multiply the unit’s power use in kilowatts by the hours it runs and your electricity price per kWh. We give you the figures for your system at the survey.

How much does an air conditioning service cost?

Servicing starts from £99 per unit, and maintenance plans start from £9 a month.

Is there a grant for air conditioning?

There is no grant for cooling alone. The government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces fossil fuel or electric heating, fitted by an MCS-certified installer. Ask us whether your home could qualify.

Do your prices include fitting?

Yes. Our prices include the units and a standard installation. Anything extra is shown in your fixed quote before you agree to anything.
